Which mobile genres actually suit a phone

Not every genre translates to a touchscreen equally. Some feel born for it; others feel like a console game trapped in the wrong body.

Deckbuilders, cosy sims and turn-based RPGs thrive here because they don't demand precise real-time input. You can play them one-handed, pause anytime, and the interface has room to breathe.

Real-time strategy and twitchy action are harder. They can work — we cover a couple that do — but they ask more of your fingers and your battery. Fingers cover the screen you're trying to read, and that tension never fully goes away.

If you're new to mobile gaming, I'd start with a genre that leans into short sessions and forgiving input. Fall in love with the platform first, then push into the demanding stuff.
