How to game longer without killing your battery

July 21, 2026 · Lukas Berger

Battery panic is the enemy of a good gaming session. The good news is most mobile games leak power in predictable ways, and a few settings changes buy you a lot of extra time.

Start with the frame rate. Many games default to 60fps or higher, and dropping to 30 barely changes how a turn-based or cosy game feels while roughly halving the strain on your chip. Brightness is the other big one — auto-brightness plus a slight manual dip goes a long way.

Turn off background haptics and continuous vibration if the game lets you. They're small drains individually but they add up over an hour. Same goes for always-on background music if you're not really listening.

Finally, watch for heat. A warm phone throttles and drains faster, so play out of direct sun and take the case off for long sessions. None of this is dramatic on its own, but stack a few and you'll notice.
